Adam’s Peak

Adam’s Peak is one of the most iconic landmarks in Sri Lanka.

Adam’s Peak, also known as Sri Pada (Sacred Footprint), is one of the most sacred and iconic landmarks in Sri Lanka. It is a conical mountain standing at 2,243 meters (7,359 feet) above sea level, located in the central highlands near the town of Hatton. This mountain holds immense spiritual significance for multiple religions:

🔹 Religious Significance

Buddhism: Believed to bear the footprint of Lord Buddha, left during his visit to Sri Lanka.
Hinduism: Associated with Lord Shiva, referred to as “Shivan Adipadham” (Footprint of Shiva).
Islam and Christianity: Some believe it to be the footprint of Adam when he was exiled from paradise, hence the name “Adam’s Peak.”

🔹 The Pilgrimage

The pilgrimage season typically runs from December to May, during which thousands of devotees and tourists climb the mountain. The goal is to reach the summit before sunrise to witness the stunning view and the mysterious “Shadow of the Peak”, a triangular shadow cast by the mountain that seems to move with the sun.

🔹 Natural Beauty

The journey to the summit is as awe-inspiring as the destination itself. The trail is surrounded by lush greenery, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife, as it is located within the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary.

🔹 Cultural and Historical Importance

Adam’s Peak has been a site of pilgrimage for over a thousand years.

🔹 Tourist Appeal
